Get CD Info from FreeDB
Using "Get CD info from FreeDB" function you can retrieve names of artist and album, track titles, genre of music, etc. from the Internet database FreeDB and save the info into the Local Database and CDPlayer.ini.

Automatic Search & Retrieving
1. Press "FreeDB" button
Press "FreeDB" button in Main Bar or use Main Menu: Action > Get CD Info from FreeDB...

2. View the tracks titles
MP3TagEditor automatically begins retrieving the info from the Internet. You can see the albums retrieved in Album Tree (). To view the tracks containing in an album click it () and look at Song List ().

 Hint: To edit a track title double click it.

3. Press "Select" button
If you are satisfied with the results of search press "Select" button (). The tracks in Track List are named according to the selected info (see Main Bar ().

Manual Search & Retrieving
1. Press "FreeDB" button
Press "FreeDB" button in Main Bar or use Main Menu: Action > Get CD Info from FreeDB...

2. Specify the search info
Type the info to be found into "Search" edit box (), either the album name, or the artist name, or the track title.

3. Define the search options
Press "Search Options" button () in Search Bar ().

4. Press "Search" button
Press "Search" button () in Search Bar. MP3TagEditor begins retrieving the info from the Internet. You can see the albums retrieved in Album Tree (). To view the tracks containing in an album click it and look at Song List ().

 Hint: To edit a track title double click it.

5. Press "Select" button
If you are satisfied with the results of search press "Select" button (). The tracks in Track List are named according to the selected info (see Main Bar ().

Search Bar
Search Bar () provides you with functionality of manual search of the needful album according to the specified tracks titles, artist and album names. Just type an artist or album name, or a track title in "Search" edit box to retrieve the whole album. Specify the search options (), and then press "Search" button ().

    Search Options
"Search Options" dialog allows customizing the search and retrieving process to speed it up and to guarantee the exact results. Mark the requisite checkboxes:

Option Description
Album The search mechanism retrieves all the albums containing the defined info in "Album" ID3 field.
Artist The search mechanism retrieves all the albums containing the defined info in "Artist" ID3 field.
Track Title The search mechanism retrieves all the albums containing the defined info in "Title" ID3 field.
Extra Info The search mechanism retrieves all the albums containing the defined info in other ID3 fields ("Year", "Genre", "Comment", etc).

Tabs
Tabs () provides you with functionality of search the album info from the different sources (FreeDB.org site, Local Database, and CDPlayer.ini file) in order to minimize the time of search and to guarantee the exact result.

Album Tree
Album Tree () shows the albums names retrieved. To view the tracks in an album click an album name in Album Tree. The retrieved albums names are distributed by genres and artists in the following order:

The image of the selected music genre.
The image of the selected artist name.
The image of the selected album title. The tracks from it are shown in Song List.
The image of the retrieved music genre.
The image of the unretrieved album title.
The image of the being retrieved album title.
The image of the album title unable to retrieve.
The image of the selected album ID. The tracks from it are shown in Song List.
The image of the album ID being retrieved.
The image of the unretrieved album ID.
The image of the album ID unable to retrieve.
The image of the retrieved album ID.

    Album Tree Pop-up Menu
This menu can be accessed in Album Tree with right mouse click on an Album Tree item. This menu consists of the following menu items:

Delete
hot key:
Del
Remove the currently selected item from Album Tree.
Export Album... Copy the album info into a specified folder.
Expand All Show all the artists and albums names in Album Tree.
Collapse All Hide all the artists and albums names so you can see only the genres of the retrieved albums.
Expand Show all the artists and albums names in the selected folder.
Collapse Hide all the artists and albums names in the selected folder.

Album Info Bar
Album Info Bar () allows you to view and edit the album info from Local Database and CDPlayer.ini.

Song List
Song List () displays the tracks containing in an album.

Column "Number" (#).
Column "Title".
Column "Length".
Column "Frames".
Column "Extra Info".
Column "Artist".
The image of the song renamed.

Song List consists of three columns:

Column Description
Number (#) The number of the song on audio CD. This information can be written into the ID3 Tag of the created MP3 file.
Title Title of the song. This information can be written into the ID3 Tag of the created MP3 file.
Artist The artist of the song. This information can be written into the ID3 Tag of the created MP3 file.
Length Play time length of the song. Format is "Minute":"Second".
Extra Info Play time length of the song. Format is "Minute":"Second".

Main Bar
Main Bar () provides the access to the main functions and displays the selected album info, including the names of artist and album, year of the album issue, number of tracks, and CDDB ID of the disc. Press "Select" () button to confirm the chosen data.

Log Bar
Log Bar () is to indicate the state of the search and retrieving process. In the combo-box you can see the stages of the process. Use button "Stop" () to cease retrieving tracks titles from the Internet in case the needful one is retrieved. Button "Exit" abolishes all the processes and closes the "FreeDB Editor" window. The tracks in Track List remain unnamed.

Status Bar
Status Bar () shows the state of the search and retrieving process and the number of albums found and retrieved.

FreeDB Editor Menu
FreeDB Editor Menu () consists of the following issues:

File
Show CDPlayer.ini Export CD disc information to cdplayer.ini, which can be used to transfer disc information to Windows CD Player program.

 Note: CD Player program in Windows 2000 does not use this .ini file.

Clear Log Remove the info from the "Log" combo-box.
Save Log...
hot key:
Ctrl + S
Save the info from Log as a text file to view the stages of the search and retrieving process.
Exit
hot key:
Alt + F4
Exit the "FreeDB" dialog.
Edit
Delete
hot key:
Del
Remove the currently selected item from Album Tree.
Export Album... Copy the album info into a specified folder.
Expand All Show all the artists and albums names in Album Tree.

Actions
Get Tracklist
hot key:
Ctrl + T
Begin retrieving the artist and album names and the tracks titles from a FreeDB server.
Edit Track Title Start editing the selected in Song List track title.
Edit Track Extra Info Start editing the extra info of the selected in Song List track.
Edit Track Artist Start editing the selected in Song List track artist.
Select Confirm the chosen album info (see Main Bar) to name the tracks in Track List.
Stop Stop the retrieving process if the needful album name and tracks titles have been retrieved (see in Song List and in Album Tree).

Check for New Versions... Open default web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or NetScape Navigator) with URL (http://www.mp3developments.com/mp3tageditor.php) which shows the new version of MP3TagEditor available on MP3Developments.
About... Show About dialog with information on MP3TagEditor and legal information about development team.

FreeDB Settings
FreeDB Settings are to help you to retrieve the album info quickly and easily.

Connection
FreeDB Server
FreeDB Server The host address of the FreeDB server. You can select a desired one according to your world location (Internet connection will be faster if you select the nearest server). Note that all FreeDB servers are synchronized every 3 days and so there is no reasons to select several servers simultaneously to compare the data.
Get List of FreeDB Serbers... Click button to get a valid list of all FreeDB servers over the world.
Proxy
Use Proxy Check to use Proxy, a special kind of server that functions as an intermediate link between a client application (like a web browser) and a real server. A software agent acts on behalf of a user, a typical proxy accepts a connection from a user, makes a decision as to whether or not the user or client IP address is permitted to use the proxy, perhaps does additional authentication, and then completes a connection on behalf of the user to a remote destination. Proxy replaces the IP address of a host on the internal (protected) network with its own IP address for all traffic passing through it.
Proxy Settings Specify additional details of the Internet connection for the access to the Internet using Proxy server.
Address Specify the address of your Proxy server.
Port Specify the port number of your Proxy server.
Proxy Authentication Check this box if your Proxy server requires authentication.
Ask password before connection Check this box to verify the Proxy password.
Use the authentication info Fill out the Username and Password fields to connect to the Proxy server.
Username Specify the Proxy server username.
Password Specify the Proxy server password.
Connection
Timeout The time of waiting the answer from FreeDB server in seconds.
E-mail You have to fill in e-mail address to use FreeDB. By default this e-mail address is set to "freedb@mp3developments.com".
Maximum Amount of Connections Specify the maximum amount of attempts to connect to the FreeDB server.

Tree
Album Tree View

Check to show Category (Genre) of the album.
Check to show the name of the Artist.
Check to show the title of the Album.
Check to show the Disc ID.
Move up the selected item.
/ Check/uncheck the selected item.
Move down the selected item.

Logging Level
Standard: just operations and their results Only the main steps of the retrieving process are shown.
Full logging All the detailes of the retrieving process are shown.

Search
Retrieving Order
Specify the sequence of retrieving the album info from:
CDPlayer.ini The info on the albums retrieved earlier is stored in the CDPlayer.ini file (C:\WINDOWS\CDPlayer.ini).
Local Database The info on the albums retrieved earlier is stored in the Local Database (situated in the same folder with MP3Producer).
FreeDB.org Search and retrieve the album info from the FreeDB.org site.

Move up the selected item.
/ Check/uncheck the selected item.
Move down the selected item.
Store all retrieved albums in Specify where to store all the retrieved from the Internet albums.
Store selected albums in Specify where to store the selected (with the button Select in Info Bar) albums.

Local DB
Local Database Path Specify the Local Database location (press the button).
Database Type
Standard mode Fast method.
Windows mode Slower, but compatible with all OS versions.
